Pinterest.....I Love and Hate you! I am so addicted to you and even though you are my favorite site you are my biggest craft time waster...Pin Pin Pin..... what I want to make and do....Pin Pin Pin..... inspirations and ideas..Pin Pin....recipes...quotes...jokes...... .and so on and so on.... then I look at the time...waaa no time to craft now lol.....I am a procrastinator :)

Birds

I love birds..https://www.pinterest.com/natalieb2/birds/

So following Pinterest links I made these.......
I like felt, I use it for play food mostly...and I enjoy hand sewing, I ending up sewing 12 of them...one day they will be a mobile.I used pre cut felt flowers for the tails, I found them at Kmart years ago in the children's craft section. They had butterfly's as well, I brought a few bags at $2 each, they have been well worth the it :)

I then tried a Spool Bird style pattern. I fell in love, I can hand sew them if I want, or machine...

And then that lead to Bird Mobiles.....which takes me to looking for branches and sticks to use. Then cleaning the sticks and cutting and sanding and even painting the branches to look more like driftwood. And then the attaching of them to branches and then balancing them, which I find so time consuming but worth it, cause they are so cute. I have made about 9 blancing bird branches, all given away to friends and family :)

Do you want to build a snowman?

Olaf, the sock snowman, inspired by the Disney movie Frozen.
My daughters are child care educators, and two work in the same child care centre. All the children are in love with the Disney Frozen movie, so they are having a Frozen themed week. I decided to make an Olaf, out of socks, that the children can play with.

My first photo of my idea.

A sock, some felt and pipe cleaners incased in felt, I built a snowman :)

I like warm hugs

He has a stand, a foam block, with a wooden piece of dowel stuck in it to help him stand upright. He is just leaning against it.
Bye Olaf,I hope the kids love you.

Topsy Turvy Doll

I have finished my Topsy Turvy doll, made out of a white sock and a black sock. It is for my daughters 30th birthday next month. A strange present for an adult but she had one as a child and she loved it. It went everywhere with her and became so ratty and dirty that I was so glad when she gave it up. Her original one was not a sock doll, but it don't think she will care.

Of course I didn't take photos at the start but this is half way, one side done, now to work on the other.

Sewing the arms.

All done one side.

And the other!

They are dressed in their Sunday Best. I am so pleased with it, all done without a pattern, pat myself on the back :)

Waldorf baby doll

I have been wanting to try my hand at a Waldorf doll for ages, so  I brought all the material and stuffing online at, http://www.winterwoodtoys.com/. It sat unused for many weeks, while I researched and goggled many Waldorf doll patterns and instructions and pinned so many :) I wanted a free pattern to use.

I found  ** Guerilla Fluff Holiday Sew-a-Long!!*** on YouTube and watched and watched and finally I was ready to tackle my baby. I down loaded free patterns from,http://ohjuniper.com/2013/10/01/free-15-inch-waldorf-baby-doll-pattern/, that is the one Guerilla Fluff is using, but I wanted a movable joint pattern so I down loaded from http://doingwithout.livejournal.com/41229.html and http://www.lapappadolce.net/waldorf-doll-patterns/?lang=en. What pattern I used I have no idea because I think I got the two mixed up, but in the end it didn't matter.

My head  at the beginning, I needle felted the nose on and added a bit more stuffing in the cheek area.

all stitched  up with a nice stiff neck, although it was floppy at first, I found by pushing the excess stuffing up into the head area that it firmed up really well before I wrapped it up.

Doll skin on and pins in place.

Yes! it is coming together
I used big buttons for the joints and much poking and pulling to anchor them.
I did not have a long dolls needle so I used my longest needle, it worked for the joints but not very well for the stitching on the face, the eye was to wide and was leaving nasty holes in my babie's face :(.
So I used a normal needle with skin coloured cotton to sculpt the face and then embroidery cotton to colour it in. I could not go to the back of the head to hide the knots so I went near the ear line thinking I could hide it with hair after.
I ended up making ears for it, so it all worked out well.
Yeah! A naked bald baby
I made hair from yarn but I was not happy with the look.So since it was my prototype doll I decided to needle felt the hair, it was only going to sit in my craft room and not be played with so needle felt hair would do the trick.
Ears sewn on and hair beginning to grow :)

My baby is born!
 Little bum
Belly button
She is dressed with a little sock toy to cuddle. Now sleep baby and be quite :)
